  | DYTM Almarhum Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, the Sultan of Terengganu laid the foundation stone of the proposed new campus of Institut Teknologi MARA Terengganu on October 19, 1978 in Sura Hujung. The land encompassed a 1,306,536 square metres, being in the impressive neighbourhood of the South China Sea (342,536 square metres) and the mountainous side of Seberang Sura(964,000 square metres). Later, the place witnessed a gradual development of the physical and academic buildings as well as the official and permanent campus of Sura Hujung.

The mosque is built on the estuary of Terengganu River by one of the prince in Terengganu state. Combining both modern and Moorish architecture design, the mosque symbolizes the innovation and modernisation in the state.
